Occasionally, geriatric dogs and cats display clinical signs unexplainable by a specific pathological diagnosis. include:
  1. Lethargy and reduced awareness of surroundings
  2. Poor coat; excessive shedding or thin, dry coat
  3. Chronic constipation or fecal incontinence
  4. Inappropriate urination
  5. Poor appetite; animal eats too little to maintain an adequate body weight
  6. Poor mental acuity

For animals displaying one or more of these conditions, choline supplementation with CHOLODIN® may be considered as an appropriate dietary supplement. Essentially, through dietary supplementation, Cholodin can help the older pet regain some physical characteristics lost to aging. Veterinary consultation is important to maximize your results.

MVP Laboratories provides four different dietary supplements to assist in the health and well-being of cats and dogs – particularly important in geriatrics.

Cholodin and Cholodin FEL: Choline-Loading Dietary Supplements

Cholodin is the original choline-loading supplement formulated with geriatric canine and feline patients. Cholodin contains choline, amino acids, vitamins and minerals in a chewable tablet or powder formulation.

Cholodin FEL offers the same dependable performance as Cholodin, plus taurine and enhanced flavor base for cats.

Cholodin contains sources of choline and phosphatidylcholine, two of the most common phospholipids. When present in sufficient dietary quantities, these components act as neurotransmitter precursors, which are chemicals manufactured and released by nerve cells that initiate the sending of "messages" from those cells. Choline has four major functions:

  1. Significant dietary factor in preventing fatty liver syndrome in diabetic dogs.
  2. Can ‘donate’ methyl groups (CH3) needed to synthesize other metabolic compounds.
  3. Necessary for acetylcholine formation.
  4. Component of the phospolipid, lecithin along with being a constituent of plasmalogens, which are abundant in mitochondria and sphingomyelin, bound particularly in the brain.

Other key ingredients include: choline, lecithin, methionine, inositol, vitamin B12, thiamine, riboflavin, pyridoxine, niacinamide, pantothenic acid, selenium, vitamin E, zinc.

CHOLODIN is available in bottles of 50 and 500 palatable tablets and 1 lb. tubs.

Cholodin-FEL is available in bottles of 50 chewable tablets.

Both Cholodin and Cholodin-FEL are available from any veterinary clinic.

Cholodin® Flex and Cholo GelTM Oral:

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance and usually exists as a sodium salt forming a highly viscous fluid with exceptional lubricating qualities. The highest levels are found in the skin and joints. There are also high levels found in the eyes, cartilage, heart, intervertebral discs of the spine, and in fluids of the inner ear and middle ear. The importance in the lubrication of joints and decreasing joint pain and inflammation has been well documented. It is also important in vision, integrity of tissues, bacterial invasiveness, elasticity of skin, circulatory lubricant, and molecular transport between cells.

Unfortunately, as pets age levels of HA decreases. When levels decrease, tissues become less elastic resulting in wrinkles and aches and pains. Painful joints are often deficient in hyaluronic acid. When HA decreases, the joints are not adequately lubricated which results in pain and inflammation. Hyaluronic acid is not only important for normal joint function but may also play a key role in numerous physiological functions.
